New Year Update

Now that I’ve successfully fought off the New Year’s Hangover Beast, time to post some updates!

So the most important news: Mage Errant Book 2, Jewel of the Endless Erg, is being edited as we speak. It should be out here in January! Expect new locations, much bigger action scenes,  sometimes friendly cultists, dragons, and Hugh stressing himself out again. Book 2 is quite a bit longer than Into the Labyrinth ⏤ 77k words compared to ItL‘s 56k words.

Once Book 2 is out, I should be starting on book 3 pretty shortly ⏤ already have it largely planned out, so it should go pretty quick. I’m loosely planning an April release for Book 3! I’d like to keep to a three month schedule with the series ⏤ it’s a fairly punishing schedule, so no promises that life won’t force delays, but I’ve been able to handle it with two books in a row so far! Mage Errant is loosely planned for six books right now, so I should be finishing it sometime in early 2020 at this rate. (I originally had the series planned longer, but ended up cutting out a lot of what I decided was filler.) Though, if I ever start making enough to quit my day job, I might be able to increase the pace (I can dream).

Oh, and apparently I’ve been nominated for an r/fantasy Stabby Award for Best Self-Published Novel ⏤ so that’s pretty awesome. (I’m up against Will Wight, Andrew Rowe, Mike Shel, and Rachel Aaron, among others, so definitely no chance of me winning, but it’s still really flattering.) I’ve seen a really wonderful amount of support from the indie fantasy writing community (special thanks to Andrew Rowe, who has been really supportive and given me some great advice ⏤ if you haven’t already, check out his book Sufficiently Advanced Magic), from readers, and from r/fantasy over the past few months, and it’s been incredibly encouraging. Releasing my book out into the world was pretty scary, and you’ve all been incredible. Thank you so much.

Also, definitely going to try and be better about updating this blog more frequently in the future. At least once a month.
